The word Anatomy is derived from two Greek words. ANA and TEMIN. ANA means up and TEMIN means cutting. Anatomy means To Cut up. THEOPHRASTUS used the term for the first time for Dissection.
Anatomy is the branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of human body, especially as revealed by dissection and the separation of parts. This studies the structure of human body in Gross (macroscopic), microscopic and development aspect.
This branch is vast and it includes Specialization in various parts of human body e.g. Osteology (For Bones), Myology (For Muscles), Neurology (For Nerves), Histology (For Tissues).
Anatomy in General is divided into two main groups i.e General and Systemic Anatomy.
Department of Anatomy is a basic Department for medical students to understand Normal Structure of human body.
Department currently has well trained faculties.
The course is in first profession.
Goal of teaching Anatomy is that after completion of the course the students should identify muscles, bones, organs and also know their structure, size location and its relation with other structures. Teaching anatomy to first profession medical students with so much perfection that they achieve excellence in finding any pathologic variations in future subjects. As it is a fact that we can find out abnormal structure only if we know the normal one.
The department is well equipped with audio visual teaching aids, specimens, charts, models and dry bone sets.
The museum of anatomy department, is rated as one of the best and added attraction in Govt Nizamia Tibbi college, Charminar, Hyderabad.
Practical classes are conducted in anatomy museum.
